Human Trafficking in UK

A lot of individuals are brought to the UK for domestic violence, sexual exploitation, forced labour etc. and they all experience post -traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These findings were as a result from studies carried out by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Kings College London.

According to the study, out of 150 people trafficked to the UK from various countries, 40% of men and 80% of women suffer from depression, anxiety or PTSD.

Human trafficking is the recruitment and movement of people, by deception and coercion, for the purposes of exploitation. The UK Home Office has estimated that in 2013 there were between 10,000 and 13,000 trafficked people in the UK for various reasons including forced sex work, domestic servitude, and labour exploitation. Recent estimates suggest that almost 21 million people worldwide are in situations of forced labour as a result of human trafficking.
